Before its discovery beneath the Hinterlands and Freehold, much of Midworld was starved for Mercuirum. For through Mercurium, that precious and deadly reagent, grand spells could be achieved that would bring peace, safety, and prosperity to all of the kingdoms. For this reason, many adventurers are sent to Freehold to fight for their Kingdom’s share and to keep the mines running.
After Tenebrous was discovered to have captured Freehold, the Kingdoms realized that more must be done to protect the town, and so a new incentive has been issued. They hoped this would bring new heroes to the town and also aid the battle worn heroes already within the town.
For those who display a symbol of their kingdom, and are of at least good standing, they will receive a small vial of Mercurium dust (basic prismatic, expires after one event). For those whose kingdom is also in possession of a mine, wear their kingdom’s symbol, and are of a favored standing, this reward is instead a Mercurium shard (rare prismatic, expires after one event).
Brotherhood members can also assist by transmuting dust into shards and shards into ore, in the standard five to one ratio. Furthermore, before creating the ore, the Brotherhood will need you to assemble the proper tools to safely handle the precious and dangerous material.
Yet the world has not ceased to turn while the Freefolk were captured. They awoke to the Soulwell being drained of power. Indeed, both the wildlife of the Hinterlands and the souls of the dead suffer for it, with the former being warped by the latter’s torment. Even worse, the Shaedlings responsible near the completion of their task, with terrible repercussions awaiting the town should they succeed in their cruel machinations.
